How a Structural Glass Floor Is Built

Laminated construction
 Floor glass is always laminated — multiple layers of toughened glass bonded together. If one layer fails, the remaining plies carry the load and the panel stays in place. This is the fundamental difference between floor glass and every other glass in a building.

Sacrificial top layer
 The uppermost ply takes the scuffs, grit, and wear of daily use and can be specified to be replaced without touching the structural plies beneath.

Engineered thickness
 Total build-up is calculated from the span, the expected load, and how the panel is supported — not chosen from a catalogue.

Support & framing
 Panels sit in a frame or on structural supports designed with the glass, with the correct bearing and setting materials so load transfers evenly rather than concentrating at a point.

Anti-slip surface
 Sandblasted patterns, ceramic frit, or applied finishes give the walking surface grip — standard on any floor people use in normal footwear.

Finish & Design Options

Clear laminated — Maximum transparency; what’s below is fully visible.

Low-iron laminated — Removes the green cast that shows in thick laminated build-ups. Noticeably clearer on floor glass, where the glass is at its thickest.

Frosted & sandblasted — Passes light while obscuring the view through — often chosen where a clear floor would feel uncomfortable to walk on.

Anti-slip patterning — Applied in patterns or across the full panel, either subtle or as a visible design element.

Tinted & colored — Bronze, grey, and custom tints for feature floors.

Integrated lighting — LED lighting within the floor build-up or beneath the panel.
